Key Milestones

The new Wellness and Recreation Center is slated for completion in the 2024-2025 academic year. Here are key milestones as the project advances:

September 2022

May 2021

  • Removal of O’Hara Garage and LRDC buildings begin, paving the way for the new Wellness and Recreation Center.
  • Building removal will continue through summer 2021.
  • The sidewalk on O’Hara Street in front of the O’Hara Garage and LRDC will remain closed and fenced off until the Wellness and Recreation Center is complete. The westbound bike lane will merge with traffic. Signage will be placed directing all traffic as such.

November 2019

  • Hillside area enabling infrastructure improvements began.

October 2019

February 2019

  • In February, the University began hosting community meetings to discuss details of the master plan and to get feedback. Pitt students, faculty and staff along with community stakeholders were invited to attend and participate in these meetings and to submit comments online.
  • Finalized Master Plan released.
Current Satisfaction Rate

In September 2017, the University engaged Brailsford & Dunlavey, Inc. to assess current and future recreation and fitness demand at Pitt.

Through work sessions, interviews, focus groups, and web-based surveys, data reported a current satisfaction rate in the following areas:
