The new Wellness and Recreation Center is slated for completion in the 2024-2025 academic year. Here are key milestones as the project advances:
September 2022
- The University commemorated the groundbreaking of the new Campus Recreation and Wellness Center with a celebration for students, faculty, staff and community members.
May 2021
- Removal of O’Hara Garage and LRDC buildings begin, paving the way for the new Wellness and Recreation Center.
- Building removal will continue through summer 2021.
- The sidewalk on O’Hara Street in front of the O’Hara Garage and LRDC will remain closed and fenced off until the Wellness and Recreation Center is complete. The westbound bike lane will merge with traffic. Signage will be placed directing all traffic as such.
November 2019
- Hillside area enabling infrastructure improvements began.
October 2019
April 2019
- Student advisory board created to help shape the vision of the center.
February 2019
- In February, the University began hosting community meetings to discuss details of the master plan and to get feedback. Pitt students, faculty and staff along with community stakeholders were invited to attend and participate in these meetings and to submit comments online.
- Finalized Master Plan released.
